The construction of the largest amphitheatre in the Roman Empire was begun by Vespasian in 72 AD. A building designed to change the relationship between power and people forever: fun and distraction offered to the people for free. It was used to show gladiator fights and hunting scenes with exotic and ferocious animals. It is estimated that its capacity was around 70 thousand people; the shows became opportunities to marvel and control the people through an unprecedented deployment of special effects. Today it is possible to visit and understand how the underground theatrical system worked, with hoists, ramps and traps that served to show animals, gladiators and scenic machinery in front of an excited audience.
