Rediscovered only in 1972 by a body of explorers, the Ciudad Perdida is today the most famous archaeological site in Colombia, protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, and considered a sacred place by the Kogi, the Wiwa and the Arhuaco, the three ethnic groups living at different altitudes in the Sierra. All the territory surrounding Ciudad Perdida is under indigenous jurisdiction, and consequently the flow of visitors is managed by the indigenous people. The only way to visit Ciudad Perdida is to walk for 4/5 days, depending on the package chosen, through the tropical jungle, starting from a height of about 800 meters to reach 1200 meters above sea level. The route is far from simple, and to face it in the best way you need to be prepared and equipped.
