The Collegiate Church of Santa Maria della Scala is one of the most important and representative religious buildings in Moncalieri and was erected during the first half of the 14th century. The monument with its imposing façade, which was remodeled in the 19th century with the inclusion of a rose window and balustrade, has been modified several times over the centuries inside, where it was covered with frescoes. The Collegiate Church has three naves with terminal apses; the fourth nave was the work of a later insertion of burial chapels of noble families. A recent restoration restored the original structure, with the naves divided by bundled pillars and covered by cross vaults. It houses, in addition to the remains of Blessed Bernard of Baden Baden, valuable and very important works of art such as The Lamentation over the Dead Christ dating from the 15th century, the 18th-century Assumption of the Virgin attributed to Beaumont and Molinari, and The Four Stories of the Life of the Virgin attributed to Milocco.
