City Museum of Modena

Modena is home to a museum of great importance, located in the Palazzo dei Musei, which is at the center of a renovation project. The Museo Civico di Modena represents the city’s identity and was founded in 1871 with the aim of preserving and exhibiting everything of interest to the entire population. Inside the museum, there are collections of great significance, ranging from archaeological evidence to ethnological collections of art and artistic crafts.The museum occupies a vast area, with 2,528 square meters of exhibition rooms and a library of nearly 300 square meters. In addition, there are storerooms covering an area of 7,450 square meters and the Montale Archaeological Park, spread over 23,000 square meters. This park was created in 2005 as an integral part of the museum through participation in European projects.Within the museum itinerary, there are a number of outstanding works of art. Among them, Antonio Begarelli’s Madonna della Piazza stands out for its artistic importance. Other noteworthy works include the Graziosi Plaster Collection, which features works by the 19th-century Modenese artist, and the Gandini Textile Collection, which contains thousands of textile fragments.The Museo Civico di Modena represents a valuable cultural heritage for the city, offering an immersive experience in history and art. Permanent exhibitions alternate with temporary exhibitions and cultural events, making the institution an ever-living and dynamic place.
