Cinque Terre, Between Heaven and Earth

The coastal strip that goes by the name Cinque Terre, consisting of the villages of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore, stretches for about 15 km and represents one of the most unspoiled and extensive natural and semi-natural Mediterranean areas in Liguria. Human activities, especially viticulture, have contributed to create a unique landscape in which the development of the typical "dry stone walls", the result of centuries of hard work by man, altogether reaches that of the famous Chinese wall. Crystal-clear sea, a network of paths among the richest and most enviable in the Mediterranean areas and mild climate have made the Cinque Terre become one of the most sought-after destinations for tourists. Precisely these climatic conditions allow the cultivation of olive trees, citrus fruits and viticulture, which led Unesco to declare the Cinque Terre “World Heritage of Humanity’” in 1997, guarantees the production of the fragrant raisin wine Sciacchetrà famous throughout the world.
