At the gates of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano, in the province of Salerno, the Caves of Castelcivita constitute, with a total length of about 4800 m, one of the largest speleological complexes in southern Italy. The system of underground cavities, opens at an altitude of 94 m above sea level, between the banks of the river Calore and the south-western slopes of the Alburni mountains, immediately showing a suggestive scenery of tunnels, wide spaces and bottlenecks dug by the millenary action.
