Despite the many transformations undergone over time, the church remains a fine example of 17th century Pesaro architecture.
It was built between 1610 and 1618 by the Community Council to dissolve the vow made in 1601 to ensure a male heir to Francesco Maria II Della Rovere who married Livia Della Rovere. The expected son – Federico Ubaldo – was born on 16 May 1605, St. Ubaldo’s day: hence the name of the church.
With an octagonal plan, the building is characterized by the presence of a high dome covered in bronze (consolidated in 1964-’65) and a lantern resting on eight masonry pillars entirely rebuilt in 1965.
