On the continuation of the ancient decumanus route that leads to the Porta dell’Annunziata, stands the Church of Sant’Andrea. Tradition links its birth to an ancient pagan temple. The exterior shows the remains of Roman times, a capital of Lucanian culture and, under the arch, two metopes and an altar with calf’s head and don garlands of flowers. The interior is characterized by a central plant with a single room covered by a vaulted ceiling.
Of considerable artistic interest are two plates:
– Madonna and Child Enthroned between Saints Nicholas of Bari and Anthony of Padua, dated 1499, attributed to Angiolillo Arcuccio;
– Madonna of Graces and the Saints Andrew the Apostle and Anthony of Padua, from the first half of the 16th century by Andrea Sabatini, known as Andrea da Salerno.
