The Chilli Pepper Museum of Maierà is unique in the world museum panorama in terms of the history, diffusion and types of this precious product: chilli pepper.
The tour in the museum’s rooms begins with the "Fantasia di ogni parte" room which collects objects of various nature and origin inspired by chilli pepper; it continues with the documented explanation of the areas of origin of the plant ("le vie del peperoncino" room) and continues with the collection of different types of seeds, spices and chilli pepper sauces ("Pianta, profumi e sapori" room).
The museum has two flagships: a lithograph by Renato Guttuso depicting the hottest chilli pepper in the world, of Mexican origin, and the image of the chilli extracted from a sixteenth-century recipe book found in Frankfurt where the plant was used for culinary and medicinal recipes.
