Cheddar Gorge is a spectacular limestone ravine that was carved out by fast-flowing streams during the interglacial phases of the last Ice Age. The gorge’s many caves include the cavernous Gough’s Cave, which is known to have housed some of England’s earliest humans at the start of the Mesolithic period some 9,000 years ago.
