The historical capital of Savoy, Chambéry is a City of Art and History with many strong points. The perfectly restored old town centre is an invitation to visit its mysterious avenues with numerous covered walkways, its stately buildings, its trompe-l’oeil facades, its delightful inner courtyards, the Saint-François-de-Sales cathedral which houses other trompe-l’oeil paintings, the castle, former residence of the Counts and Dukes of Savoy, the pedestrianised streets and the famous Elephant Fountain.
The visit continues with the Savoyard Museum, which exhibits archaeological and ethnographic collections, and the Museum of Fine Arts, which houses numerous Italian paintings. Place Saint-Léger, very lively, is a place in the city not to be missed for a stroll and a stop at the cafés with their outdoor tables. The city also offers many cultural events thanks to the André Malraux space in the Curial district and the Charles Dullin theatre.
Water sports enthusiasts will be delighted by the proximity of two natural lakes: the large Lake Bourget and the emerald-coloured Lake Aiguebelette.
