Chamäleon Berlin is a creative venue, network partner and stage for contemporary circus.
The theater is located in the heart of Berlin in the Hackesche Höfe , which was built in the lavish Art Nouveau style and opened in 1906. The courtyards survived the Second World War almost unscathed, but the GDR era took a toll on them: the buildings were severely neglected and the magnificent rooms were only used as warehouses.
Only after reunification were the Hackesche Höfe completely renovated and turned into a tourist attraction. In 2004, the historic ballroom, in which the shows are performed today, was extensively renovated and restored according to the original findings. Since then, the CHAMÄLEON Theater has become the focal point of the new circus in Berlin.
Today, the Hackesche Höfe are among Berlin’s architectural showpieces and bear witness to the glorious Gründerzeit of the early 20th century.
