There are those who say it is the most beautiful bay on the Argentario and those who believe that the arduous journey to reach it is not worth it. Cala del Gesso should certainly be experienced in the early hours of the morning or out of season. The steep path, just under 1 km long, does not discourage bathers and it is not difficult to understand why. The small cove of smooth pebbles opens onto a mirror of emerald water where a multitude of fish swim.
Cala del Gesso is dominated by a 15th century Spanish watchtower and in the sea opposite is a small island which was once known as Argentino and is now called Argentarola. The big "rock" hides inside it an underwater cavity called "Grotta delle Pumadorine". The name is in dialect and refers to the numerous lobsters that once populated it and looked like "tomatoes".
The beach of Cala del Gesso can also be reached by sea, it is completely free and has no bars or refreshment points.
