Cavalese:Resonance Bank

At the highest point of the Parco della Pieve di Cavalese stands what is commonly called the "Banco de la Resòn": a curious structure of stone blocks arranged to form two concentric rows of seats placed around a circular bench with a hole in the centre. Unique of its kind in Italy, the representatives of the Community of Fiemme used to meet here in assembly, usually every 1st May to elect the Scario, every 15th August to celebrate the feast of the Assumption, Patron of the Valley and Cavalese, and to discuss the most important issues for the life of the people of Fiemme. Votes were cast thanks to the use of marbles that were inserted into the hole of the central bench. The public witch trials of the 16th century also took place here. These were tragic years for the Trentino: 28 people were convicted of witchcraft. 6 of them managed to escape, but of the 22 people imprisoned, 18 were condemned to the stake and burned alive, while 4 died in prison.
