The old town is rich in architectural and artistic jewels such as the Cathedral of the Assumption, built in the late sixteenth century but modified during the following centuries: the rich and imposing facade is in fact in Baroque style, while the internal sculptures are from the Renaissance period. Inside there is a series of small chapels among which stands out the Sistine Chapel, built by Pope Sixtus V della Rovere. Obviously it is not as imposing as the one in Rome, but it is certainly one of the most famous attractions in Savona thanks to the presence of valuable frescoes, paintings, the sepulchral monument of the spouses Leonardo Della Rovere and Lucina Monleone and the organ with the rococo case.
