Cathedral Mary Most Holy of the Visitation

Enna, known as the "belvedere" of Sicily for its incredible panoramic views, is home to some of the most beautiful churches in the region, and the Duomo is definitely one of them. Inside you can admire a splendid 18th-century wooden coffered ceiling, as well as several works of art by Guglielmo Borremans. In the right apse is the statue of Our Lady of the Visitation, patron saint of the city, which is carried in procession through the streets of the city to the Hermitage of Montesalvo every year on July 2.The latter is located at one of the highest points in the city and was built in 1393 by the Knight of Malta, Don Giovanni Grimaldi. Inside the hermitage is a wooden crucifix made by Fra’ Umile da Petralia, surrounded by 52 relics of saints. Next to the church are an obelisk and an ancient stele made by Michele Rocca, indicating the exact center of Sicily. These religious and artistic treasures make the Cathedral and the Hermitage of Montesalvo must-see destinations for those who wish to immerse themselves in the rich history and spiritual heritage of Enna.
