Cassata of Sulmona

The cassata of Sulmona is a typical sweet of the Abruzzo tradition. As the name suggests, the recipe originates in Sulmona, a town particularly devoted to the art of confectionery and famous for its sugared almonds. Rich and delicious cake, the cassata of Sulmona is very easy to prepare. The base is composed of a simple sponge cake. Once ready, the sponge cake is divided into 4 discs of equal thickness. Each disc is wet with centerbe and filled with a delicious butter cream flavored with 3 different flavors: cocoa, nougat and almond brittle. Finally, decorated with leftover cream, candied cherries and coloured sprinkles, the cassata of Sulmona becomes an irresistible and spectacular dessert.
