Villages

Casertavecchia

It has uncertain origins Casertavecchia but they are certainly very ancient, because already in 861 AD, in a writing, we read about a settlement called "Casa Irtam", that is a village above. A village located high up that was the center of Caserta during the Middle Ages and brought to splendor at the time of the Normans when the Cathedral dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel was built, a real jewel. Later with the Bourbon Kingdom, everything moved towards the center of Caserta and the Royal Palace that was built, so the village lost some of its importance, and only a few years ago it regained interest again and has recently been included in the list of Italian national monuments.
