Caputh Church

The church in Caputh is right in the centre of the village opposite Caputh Castle. It was built by Friedrich August Stüler (a student of Schinkel) from 1850-52 at the order of Frederick William IV and is a pillar basilica with a detached campanile. The starry sky inspired by Schinkel on the coffered ceiling and in the chancel, the classical interior fittings and the Schinkel baptismal font are impressive. The church forms the visible centre of a lively community and has been lovingly restored time and time again despite heavy structural damage. Its simple, clear forms are captivating. It offers visitors to Schwielowsee a particularly beautiful place of reflection and inner contemplation.
