Picturesque and evocative, Peyto Lake is located just 40 km from Louise Lake. A stunning stretch of turquoise water in Alberta’s Banff National Park. Not that Canada has no shortage of beautiful and enchanting lakes, but Peyto Lake has something that makes it truly unique.
Within Banff National Park, amidst the Rocky Mountains, valleys, and natural expanses lies the incredibly colorful lake. The Icefields Parkway is the road that takes you through Jasper National Park and Banff National Park to Peyto Lake.
The lake is named after Bill Peyto, one of the first guides to the Banff area, who came to the area when the Icefields Parkway was opened in 1941.
The lake sits at an elevation of about 1880 feet and is surrounded by mountains that reach to the shore, almost as if they were protecting a priceless jewel. It is fed by glaciers on the tops of the mountains.
