Cala Cipolla beach: refuge for wild spirits

A bizarre name that could derive from the onion shape of the small creek, or from Simoni Cibudda, a man who shipwrecked here in the early twentieth century. To better enjoy the beach you have to set the alarm at dawn: arrive early to grab a seat in the front row, and your efforts will be repaid. Cala Cipolla is a small jewel whose wild atmosphere has been preserved: a small strip of golden sand enclosed between two cliffs stretched out over the sea, surrounded by juniper bushes and a maritime pine forest, with a total absence of bathing establishments and restaurants (there is only a kiosk at the car park). And in front of you the sea opens up, with its clearness and its light color, occasionally interrupted by the black shadow of a rock in the depths. Notice for diving lovers and underwater fishermen: this is the perfect place for you! How to get here? From Cagliari, go west. Take state road 195 toward Pula, turn at the junction for Chia, proceed on Viale Spartivento, pass the pond and continue straight on along a dirt road. Have you arrived at the parking lot? Here, you have to take another path uphill to reach a spectacular view of the coast and then descend to the cove. You’ll be sweaty, but happy.
