Carmelo Cappello was born in Ragusa in 1912 and died in Milan in 1996. After attending art school in Comiso, in 1929 he moved to Rome where he worked in Ettore Colla’s studio. The following year he moved to Milan, where he attended Marino Marini’s courses at the Isia in Monza. In 1938 he had his first personal exhibition at the Bragaglia Gallery in Rome. He took part in various editions of the Venice Biennale, the Quadrennial in Rome and the Triennial in Milan. In 1977 he joined the experience of Cooperarte founded by a group of artists including Carla Accardi, Emilio Isgrò, Mimmo Rotella, Getulio Alviani.
The collection of Palazzo Zacco consists of 15 sculptures and 20 graphic works by the artist from Ragusa.
