Burghausen is a beautiful medieval town in Upper Bavaria, Germany, near the Austrian border. Situated on the Salzach river, the town is best known for its gothic castle, which you can see sprawled across the background of our image. Burghausen Castle is over 1,000 years old and is the longest castle complex in the world, with a length of more than one kilometre. It sits on top of a hill overlooking the picturesque old town section of Burghausen and consists of the main castle with an inner courtyard (top left of our image) and five outer courtyards.
