The word hesychast comes from the Greek for stillness and quiet. The hesychast monks believed that God could only be reached by means of deep internal stillness through prayer. They sought quietude in seclusion, away from secular life. Krushuna hesychast had a number of local followers. The numerous niches in the rocks that were so made that they could serve as shelter in bad weather testify to that. Today nothing but the ruins of monastic cells has left from the medieval hesychast monastery.
