Brugesla capital of West Flanders, in the northwest of Belgium, is distinguished by its canals, cobbled streets and medieval buildings. The port, Zeebrugge, is an important centre for fishing and European trade. Burg Square, in the city centre, preserves the 14th century Stadhuis (town hall), characterized by a decorated and sculpted ceiling. Nearby, the market square houses the Beffroi, a 13th century bell tower 83 metres high, with panoramic views.
