In Brienza, it is said that in the castle that dominates the village, among the many guests who have found hospitality and animated its rooms and halls, one in particular has left an indelible mark. A sign remained alive within the walls of the castle that whisper stories of brave men and beautiful ladies. On all of them resounds the story of the Bianca da Brienza. In this castle, around the middle of 1300, it seems, lived a woman named Bianca, beautiful and luxurious. She used to give parties to which she took part dressed only in the jewels of which she was proud; she entertained her guests dancing languidly and diving into a tub full of gold coins. It is said that her treasure was kept in a secret room of the castle that had 365 rooms, as many as the days of the year. The room where the treasure was hidden was 366, a secret room. So secret that the only ones who knew its route were Bianca and her faithful servant. But fate had in store for her a different path from the luxury and comfort of the castle of Brienza. During a voyage to Amantea she was captured by pirates and brought to Algiers; here a priest fell in love with her and wanted her with him. From that moment on, nothing more was known about her and her treasure. Still today the 366th room has not been discovered and, according to the legend, whoever finds this room will become rich and the master of the treasure.
