The museum is essentially a permanent archaeological exhibition that gives life to a series of opportunities for study, research, guided tours aimed at rediscovering the history of the territory of Cosenza.
The archaeological exhibition examines the phases of ancient history, from the Palaeolithic era with the remains of the caves of Cirella to the Greek and Roman eras.
Pottery of various sizes, bronze objects of the Oenotrian population, including a fibula and a violin bow, a belt with special decoration, finds from Corigliano Calabro that are from a sanctuary dedicated to a female deity, the objects of the ancient Confederation of the Bretti of 365 BC, at war with the Greeks, first and then the Romans, relive in the appropriate rooms.
A special consideration goes to the Museum’s coin cabinet, with Greek, Brettie, Roman and medieval coins.
On the second floor of the Museum, in connection with the Complesso di S. Agostino, a Bourbon prison that housed, among others, the brothers Attilio and Emilio Bandiera before the execution, there is a documentary collection of the city’s Risorgimento.
