The mussels are a particular type of mussel that is only fished at the Conero. There is a stretch of coast of the Conero Riviera that goes from Pietralacroce in Ancona to the Sassi Neri in Sirolo, famous for its "mussels" fishing.
Elsewhere it is called mussel or mussel, but here on the Conero Riviera it is called mussel.
The main difference is that the mussel is fished and not bred.
Attached to the walls of Mount Conero, wild mussels have become a typical and unique culinary speciality of the area, which is only found in the period from April to October.
Today, the Conero mussel has become a Slow Food Presidium and during the summer there is an entire festival dedicated to this speciality… which could only be called "Mosciolando". We recommend you try them cooked marinara: with plenty of olive oil, lemon, parsley and freshly ground pepper.
