Borgo Valsugana – Ausugum for the Romans

he centre of Borgo Valsugana – Ausugum for the Romans – is cut and shaped by the river Brenta: at every corner there are delightful views and fine architecture, much of which has a Veneto flavour. A stroll through the centre of Borgo Valsugana along Corso Ausugum will take you past baroque portals and shops selling typical products. In addition to the imposing Telvana Castle which dominates the town, there are the churches of San Francesco, San Rocco and Sant’Anna, Palazzo Ceschi, the Venetian bridge over the Brenta, the Tognolli water-powered forge, the Alcide Degasperi hall (who died in Sella), the Great War museum and Spazio Klien. The entire valley is served by the spectacular Valsugana railway, which connects Venice to Trento via Bassano del Grappa, and there is also a beautiful cycle path along the Brenta.
