The historic monument “Flèche Saint-michel” in the heart of Bordeaux, offers an incredible view of Bordeaux and its roofs. Indeed the Saint Michel freestanding bell tower is 114 meters high and soars toward the sky.
“La fleche” which means The Spire is the second bell tower in France. It is linked to the Saint Michel cathedral. It was built during the 15th century and is most impressive thanks to its underground crypt where mummies were buried at the time and inspired famous writers like Victor Hugo and Gustave Flaubert.
If you are brave enough, climb up for 47 meters and when you will reach the terrace, you’ll have a magnificent and panoramic view across the city of Bordeaux and the Garonne river. You can also visit the basilique of Saint Michel, which is a beautiful piece of architecture in Bordeaux. The history is fascinating, and the visits are available in English. Don’t miss this top monument of the city!
