The Renon high plateau is the mountain par excellence of Bolzano and is a popular destination for excursions, family holidays and simple day trips. It is located right in the heart of South Tyrol and can be easily reached in just 12 minutes with the modern Renon cable car, which connects the centre of Bolzano with Soprabolzano with a breathtaking panorama.
"The Renon is divinely beautiful and cosy": with these words Sigmund Freud described the plateau to his friend Carl Gustav Jung. It was the beginning of the 20th century and for a long time these places had already become the summer retreat of the people of Bolzano: the patrician villas and holiday homes in Art Nouveau style still bear witness to the centuries-old tradition of the plateau as a holiday destination. And then there are the small villages, all delightful: from Soprabolzano to Collalbo, from Auna di Sopra to Longostagno, up to the pretty Costalovara, lying near a small lake. Today getting there is much easier, but the sense of peace and quiet is unchanged.
