The nineteenth-century section of the Historical Museum of Bergamo, which has inherited the historical and artistic heritage of the Civic Museum of the Risorgimento and Resistance, has been set up since May 7, 2004 in the building inside the keep of the Rocca, built during the Venetian rule to house the artillerymen.
The keep, in an elevated position, offers a 360-degree view of the city and some areas of the province: the main monumental buildings in the upper part, the flat town, the hills of San Virgilio and Maresana, the Brembana valley and the territory towards Treviglio and Milan.
The route, organized in sections, starts from the arrival of the French troops in Bergamo (Christmas 1796) and touches on the most significant thematic nodes of the events of the Bergamo territory until 1870, in relation to Lombard and national history.
The aim of the project is to offer as complete a vision as possible of the period 1797-1870 through diversified languages and testimonies: the route makes use of environmental reconstructions, multimedia stations, audio with the voices of some of the protagonists of the historical events and material evidence, coming both from museum collections and from the collections of city and provincial institutions as well as private citizens.
