The Museum of Natural Sciences Enrico Caffi of Bergamo, located in the Upper Town in the Citadel near the Civic Archaeological Museum of Bergamo, "holds collections referring to all naturalistic disciplines, preserves more than one million finds, and has an exhibition area of over 1,800 m². The first nucleus of the Museum dates back to 1871 and consists of the naturalistic educational collections of the Royal Technical Institute ‘Vittorio Emanuele II’. In 1918 the Museum became civic. The collections dedicated to Earth Sciences largely include finds from the Bergamo area and include collections of minerals, ornamental and building stones. The paleontological collections include more than 55,000 finds: the main nucleus is made up of fossils coming from the Orobic territory. Finally, the zoological collections are important.
