Barra Lighthouse

The Farol da Barra is a lighthouse located on the southern tip of Barra Beach in Salvador. Built in 1839, the lighthouse is one of the city’s most famous landmarks and one of the best vantage points to admire the view of Todos os Santos Bay.The Farol da Barra was built with the aim of signaling to sailors the proximity of rocks and shallows in the Barra beach area, a strategic zone for maritime traffic. The lighthouse is 22 meters high and its tower is painted red and white, with a lantern that lights up at night.In addition to its historical and functional importance, the Farol da Barra has become one of the most visited places in Salvador because of its panoramic position over Todos os Santos Bay.
