In Quercia street n° 10 there is the "Head of the Turk". On the lintel of a house, located in Bari Vecchia, there is the reproduction of the head of a man with moustache and turban. It would have belonged to Mufarrag, a Saracen warrior who ruled the city. Disliked by the local population because he had tried to impose the cult of Islam, he tried to regain their favour by challenging the bad hag, Befanì. In fact, it seems that, on the night of December 5, the latter and a good befana appeared in the street. On this occasion, Befanì cuts off the heads of those she crosses. The same fate befell Mufarrag and his head, rolling, was stuck in the lintel.
