Perched atop the hills of Bellinzona in the Swiss canton of Ticino, Montebello Castle is one of three fortresses that once protected the ancient city. The castle was built in the 14th century, expanded in the 15th century and renovated to its current state in the early 1900s. The castle is now home to the Civic Museum, which includes archaeological artifacts from prehistoric burial sites in the region.
