Arpino and Cicero

Lying on a hilly system that suddenly rises over the valley, Arpino offers its unmistakable profile to the visitor who arrives there. As you get closer to the town, surrounded by a thriving countryside of century-old olive groves, the imposing outline of the Ladislao Castle with the small church of the Madonna di Loreto becomes sharper, and the silhouettes of the buildings on which the baroque bell tower of S. Maria di Civita stands out. We are on the left side of the Media Valle del Liri, near the extreme foothills of the central Apennines. Located at an average height of 450 m above sea level, Arpino enjoys a dry and pleasant climate, which makes it an ideal "health resort". The town was the birthplace of the great orator Cicero and the famous leader Caio Mario.
