Andrassy Avenue: the Champs Elysées of Budapest

Andrassy Avenue is sometimes called the Champs Elysées of Budapest. This avenue was also built during the millennium celebrations of Hungary. It was renamed several times since its construction, and in 2002 was included to the list of monuments of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Under this avenue passes the oldest metro line in Europe. It has remained exactly the same for the last 130 years. The Emperor Francis Joseph himself was present at the inauguration of this line of metropolitan. The small three-car trains look a bit more like tramway streetcars rather than subway cars. At each station, you can visit an exhibition of the most interesting buildings of this era that are nearby. The same as for the Avenue above it, this first line of the Budapest metro is listed on the UNESCO register.
