The Landolina Palace, located next to the Cathedral, was commissioned in 1730 at the behest of Francesco Landolina, marquis of Sant'Alfano and an important nobleman of the city. The Landolina family, of Norman origin, arrived in Noto Antica in 1091 following Roger. The building has a simple facade made of well-shaped stones, but as a whole it is harmonious and anticipates the neoclassical style in art.Entering the palace, one enters a courtyard that once housed stables and storerooms on the ground floor. Immediately to the right are two sphinxes, positioned symmetrically, which seem to invite the visitor to climb the majestic staircase of honor leading to the main floor. The palace was once the residence of Don Pietro Landolina, marquis of Sant'Alfano and first Intendant of the Province of Noto. It also hosted King Ferdinand II of Bourbon Parma and Queen Maria Theresa three times between 1838 and 1844.The Landolina Palace represents an important example of noble architecture in the city of Noto. Its simple but well-proportioned facade and the regal atmosphere it evokes are testimony to the history and prestige of the Landolina family. A visit to the palace allows one to immerse oneself in the aristocratic atmosphere of a bygone era and to appreciate the elegance of its architectural design.
