Completely in the Gothic style is the village of Cordes-sur-Ciel, which has retained all its authenticity and charm. A walk through the medieval town is an unmissable experience, all the alleys are lined with lots of ateliers and craft shops. In 2014 it was elected most beautiful village in France.Magnificent Albigensian bastide in the Tarn, one of the oldest in Occitania, Cordes-sur-Ciel has an exceptional Gothic heritage, with all the phases represented: the primitive of the 13th century, the radiant of the 14th and the flamboyant of the 15th. Founded in 1222 by the Count of Toulouse Raymond VII, it has preserved all its authenticity and this is what makes its charm. A stroll through the medieval town is a real treat, especially as the streets are lined with artisan stalls and artists' galleries. The upper town has retained some superb Gothic residences, including the house of the Grand Fauconnier, the house of the Grand Écuyer, the house of the Grand Veneur, renowned for its carved hunting scene, and the Prunet house, which houses the Sugar and Chocolate Arts Museum created by Yves Thuriès, Meilleur Ouvrier de France. For a breathtaking view, stand on top of the ramparts and admire the superb view over the Cérou valley! For two days in July, the Grand Fauconnier festival will transport you straight into the medieval world, with a costumed banquet, a ball, a medieval market, parades and other activities from the past. As for foodies, they'll love the croquants de Cordes. Made with almonds, egg whites and sugar, they are a real treat for your palate.
