Boissiere House

The Gingerbread House, also known as the Boissiere House, is a historic residence located at 26 Queen's Park West in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Designed and built in 1904 by architect Edward Bowen for owner C.E.H Boissiere, the house is considered one of the most photographed in the city.The structure features architecture typical of the colonial period, with carved and painted wood-based decorations, hence the name "Gingerbread House." Inside, the house features plaster ceilings made by the same Italian craftsman who worked on the ceilings of other historic buildings in the city, such as Killarney and the Red House Chamber Council. The stained glass windows, with their strawberry vines in the small pagoda-roofed study, filter the morning light and create an atmospheric atmosphere.The decor of the house consists of antique furniture, artwork and precious objects, including the large table clock featured in the dining room. The residence is also known for its manicured garden, which offers an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the city.The Gingerbread House has been declared a national monument of Trinidad and Tobago and, although privately owned, can be visited by appointment. Its beauty and charm have inspired many artists and photographers, and the building has become an icon of the city of Port of Spain.
