The museum was founded in the 1980s and offers a comprehensive overview of Taino life and culture, with pottery, stone, and metal objects ranging from decorative ceramics to hunting tools.In addition to Taino artifacts, the museum also features a collection of Spanish artifacts, dating back to the colonization of the Dominican Republic in the 15th century.
