The area of the Aleatico di Gradoli DOC denomination falls in the northern part of the Lazio region, in the Province of Viterbo, and covers an area of about 8,500 hectares, including a territory of medium and high hills, situated on the slopes of the Vulsino volcanic district. The grape variety suitable for the production of Aleatico di Gradoli DOC wine is the one traditionally grown in the geographical area: Aleatico. The DOC Aleatico di Gradoli refers to 4 types of red wine, "basic", "fortified", "fortified reserve" and "passito". Specifically, the individual types of wine are characterized as follows:
"Aleatico di Gradoli": good structure and presence of polyphenols, which give the wine a full-bodied character and an absence of roughness. The wine has a garnet red colour with violet tones, an aroma with fruity hints typical of the vine, finely aromatic, a flavour of fresh fruit, soft, velvety, sweet.
"Aleatico di Gradoli" liqueur wine: good structure and presence of polyphenols, which give the wine a full-bodied character, absence of roughness and good longevity. The wine has a more or less intense garnet red colour, sometimes with violet reflections, an aroma with fruity hints typical of the vine, aromatic, delicate, characteristic, with a full, sweet, harmonious, pleasant flavour.
"Aleatico di Gradoli’ liqueur-like Riserva: good structure and presence of polyphenols, which give the wine a full-bodied character, an absence of roughness and good longevity. The wine has a more or less intense garnet red colour, sometimes tending towards orange with ageing, an aromatic aroma, characteristic of ageing in oak casks, a full, sweet flavour, more or less tannic, harmonious and pleasant.
"Aleatico di Gradoli’ raisin wine: good structure and presence of polyphenols, which give the wine a full-bodied character, an absence of roughness and good longevity. The wine has a ruby red colour sometimes with violet reflections, an intense aroma with fruity hints typical of the cultivar, finely aromatic, ripe fruit flavour, sweet.
On the palate, all the wines have normal acidity, little perceptible bitterness, little astringency and good structure, which contribute to their gustatory balance.
