Alassio in Liguria is known as the "City of Lovers". A must for all couples is the famous Muretto with its coloured tiles, the bronze statue of the "Innamorati" and the mailbox that is filled with love poems and letters every February 14th. According to an ancient legend, the name of the town is linked to the elopement of two young people, Adelasia and Aleramo, who together founded the community of Alaxia, which later became Alassio.
