The history of Acquaviva Picena, has very ancient origins, and is strongly linked to its mighty Fortress, which is its symbol.
In the Early Middle Ages, the primitive fortification was born, which has a simple defensive structure, made of pebbles and mortar.
In 947, it seems that Acquaviva was among the possessions of the powerful Abbey of Fàrfa.
Only in 1034, we have certain documents, which tell of an exchange of property between the bishop of Fermo and the lord of Offida, to whom the appurtence de Acquaviva is given.
The true splendour of the Fortress began in the thirteenth century, thanks to the Acquaviva family, feudatories of the Swabian imperial family, who held possession for several centuries.
The fortress is in a strategic position to control the valley.
