Accettura, famous above all for Il Maggio di Accettura, a local holiday held every year on the day of Pentecost; its origin is pagan and linked to the peasant world, but over time it coincided with the celebration of the city’s protector, Saint Julian.
A few days before are chosen the protagonists of the feast, the turkey oak and holly, respectively the May and the summit; during Pentecost these monumental shrubs are brought with devotion and patience for 15 km, along which the festivities take place; the green spring meadows become a place of tables where you can taste the local gastronomy, a place of meeting and celebration. In the afternoon, the two peaks meet and their wedding is celebrated; finally, a few days later, there is the procession of San Giuliano, which sees the rise of May. A feast with an ancient and popular flavour, which can be found in few other places.
