The Abbey of Notre-Dame-d’Abondance, located in the small town of Abondance, in the north of Haute-Savoie, is an interesting religious complex dating back to the 15th century: stroll through the cloister and observe the splendid frescoes that cover the walls, and don’t miss a visit to the collection of sacred art, for an evocative dive into the past. Founded in 1139 on the site of a former 11th-century priory, Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption Abbey is classified as a Historic Monument. Located in the Pre-Alps of Chablais, between Lake Geneva and the Swiss border, the abbey has preserved the abbey church, cloister and monastery buildings.
To discover, as I have already mentioned: the wall paintings of the cloister dating from the 15th century, the trompe-l’oeil paintings of the abbey church dating from the 19th century, as well as the exhibition "From history to art: the sacred heritage in the Vallée d’Abondance" which allows you to discover the religious heritage of the valley thanks to the objects in the collection of sacred art, by visiting part of the former monastery (kitchen room and monk’s cell).
Various activities and entertainment are proposed.
